The 2014 season is nearly here.
 Feburary 2014

The 2014 season is nearly here. There is to be a full year of racing, with local league and national matches being held at Great Blakenham. With a few changes to how some leagues are formatted and the junior team being given a league this year, we are looking forward to giving our riders lots of chances to ride for their club.

Our junior team will be getting together off the track with a trip to the bowling alley. While the senior team will be going head to head indoor karting. All this before the season starts properly! Training this year starts with the exciting news that Martin will be here to help us all with our fitness after what seems like a very long winter off the bike. This will start on the 4th March.

With a packed list of fixtures, home and away, it won't be long until our senior team host East London on the 16th March for the first div 1 and new combination matches.

Gt.Blakenham vs Hethersett 18/03/2012

 March 2012

Gt. Blakenham got their Div 1 season off to a flying start today when they raced, the team who must be considered title contenders, Heathersett at Mill Lane.. With both clubs having major rider strength and commitment issues towards the end of last season they were both unsure what 2012 would bring. What a difference a winter makes !! with both clubs having been strengthened during the transfer period. With a number of the top Norwich riders joining Hethersett, on paper they are the team to beat. However on a damp day Blakenham had other ideas and just seemed more hungry for the win, even with three of their second string riders helping out. Pairings were the key, newly signed, Jonjo Slaughter was no doubt the man of the match with some excellent team racing with Vet champion Jason Ashford, the pairing notched up two maximum wins in heats 3 and 13 helping to seal the victory. Hethersett managed heat wins with Leigh Cossey and Lee Grange leading the way but it was basic cycle speedway 5-5 that kept the heat one lead for the home side. Everyone was suffering from the early season lack of fitness, Adam Peck was impressive but the injury that he picked up at the British indviduals last August is still giving him problems. For Hethersett it was a solid match but Gt. Blakenham's top five took the spoils and were unstoppable.

Gt.blakenham 95

A. Peck 20, L. Osborne 20, J. Ashford 17+3, J. Slaughter 14, C. Osborne 12,

Hethersett 84

L. Cosset 13+1 D. Chambers 13+2, P. Adams 11+1, L. Grange +1, H. Hamill 10+1

The division 2 encounter was a totally different tale. The youth of the Hetersett side led from the start, the much younger home side tried their best but were beaten by a much superior side. It was good to see Kane Grimmer on a bike after a spell out of the sport, the match was made even more exciting with the likes of Mel Perkins, Rob Carter and Terry Ashford, combined age of 310, trying to show the kids how it's done.. A good friendly match with a forgone conclusion.
